People X Additive
Graphic notation for modular synthesizer ensemble, 6 people and spatialization, duration app 7:30min
This piece composed in may 2018 for modular synthesizer ensemble deals with the possibilities of realization of additive synthesis with the help of several subtractive instruments. The slow addition of individual voices creates a harmonious soundscape. The ensemble is perceived as a single instrument whose timbre evolves as the piece progresses.
The score is designed for 5 instrumentalists and 1 sound director / conductor. Optionally, additional instruments can be added. As more instruments are added, the sounds and pitches should blend harmoniously into the composition.
Each instrument has 2 essential parameters: frequency and volume, marked in the score with frq & vol. If the frequency of most instruments remains static, then there are volume gradients of 0-10. At the beginning, each instrument should be leveled at its maximum volume of 10 by the sound conducter.
Each instrumentalist is encouraged to make minimal slow changes to LFO rates, filter cutoffs, and filter resonances throughout the piece. Important here is the overall sound and not the single voice. It should be percieved as one single instrument.
